DSLR users Adelaide Nifty 50 Meetup

by mysv8rulz on Nov.23, 2009, under Uncategorized

With a little bit of planning and a whole lot of luck it turned out that my most recent trip to Adelaide was timed perfectly to coincide with a meet up already planed but some friends of mine from www.dslrusers.com. The theme for the day was to only use a 50mm fixed lens, with various locations over Adelaide beginning at the central markets. Thanks to everyone for  great day, and sorry i couldn’t make the dinner. I think I did more talking than taking photos to be honest but heres a few photos.

Dion and Sam’s wedding

by mysv8rulz on Nov.17, 2009, under Uncategorized

We’ll avid blog fans it has happened once again, Ive built you all up with regular posting and the just let you down by not posting anything for quite some time. And on that note thankyou all for your support, without all of the positive feedback i receive it wouldn’t be woth making these posts.

In early October I had the chance to repay a massive favor, Dion’s dad took photos for me at my own wedding and what better way to thank the family than photograph Dion’s wedding, as it turned out it was a beautiful day, although it got quite chilly for the afternoon shots though eh girls???.  When shooting weddings in foreign towns (Port Pirie in this case) I rely very heavily on the input of the bride and groom for photograph locations, and rarely get to spend much time sussing these locations out prior to the actual event, contrary to popular belief there’s a lot more going into wedding photographs than just shooting the events especially when it comes for the set up shots. I always make time to visit a location at least once before the photos and on this occasion it happened to be the afternoon before the wedding, when at the beach location I noticed the afternoon sun would be hitting the southern filinders ranges in the background of what I had hoped to be some really nice portraits. Using a combination of portable strobes and umberella’s we really achieved some nice results.

Below are a very small selection of what we captured on the day (thanks guys for allowing a realistic amount of time for photographs)

Thanks Dion and Sam for letting me be a part of your day!

Photographers that inspire me!

by mysv8rulz on Jul.20, 2009, under Uncategorized

It’s not often I really stop and think about what is driving me, creatively and for motivation.

I spend hours every week looking at other photographers work, not just their images though videos lighting diagrams and listening to pod casts.

So here are some of the photographers that inspire me,

Chase Jarvis,

Where do I start, the thing I really like about his work is the embrace of multimedia he has made, the videos of everything from packing for shoots to the studio tours. Love seeing the crew and the amount of work that goes into his stuff. Check out Chase Jarvis’ Blog for all of Chase’s news.

David Hobby,

It’s no secret that I’m a huge STROBISTfan, David’s site is a wealth of information and his work with small speed lights is nothing short of astonishing. The commitment that David has made to the Art is huge, he shares everything it’s amazing! Follow David’s Blog

Joe Mcnally,

Where to start, the thing that really grabs me about Joe is the fact he will go to pretty much any length to get an image.

With his experience he can both construct images base up and also capture a moment, what an amazing talent.

His books are absolutly brilliant!

Desktop background of the month

by mysv8rulz on Jan.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

The past week has been absolutely scorching here in the Hill, which has sucked because I have had a mate here to shoot with. Never the less we have been heading out after dark and have captured some spectacular images. This picture is approximately 1.5hours worth of exposures stacked on top of one another to show the movement of the stars. To use as your background, click the thumbnail below, the right click the larger image and select “SET AS BACKGROUND”

My favorite time of the year!!

by mysv8rulz on Dec.28, 2008, under General, Uncategorized

Putting up with the scorching heat and fly’s is well worth the bother during this time of the year, or im beginning to get the feeling its just me?? I love the fact that at this time of the year we get some of the most spectacular sunsets and sunrises, and that I can get home from work day shift and still make it out for some sunset shots. The fact that we get some spectacular afternoon storms and lightening shows. We have quite some time before were off interstate traveling again so stay tuned for some new work from in and around Broken Hill.

Flinders Ranges Escape

by mysv8rulz on Dec.08, 2008, under Uncategorized

It’s not often you need a holiday from a holiday but that’s exactly what we did on the way home from our Yorke peninsula trip. Called in to spend a nice weekend with my parents in the heart of the flinders ranges. Come up with some awesome panorama’s of the ranges on sundown which will definitely be an addition to the online store in the coming weeks.

Yorke trip a winner!!

by mysv8rulz on Dec.08, 2008, under Uncategorized

Our most recent trip, took us to the beautiful Yorke peninsula where I was inundated with beautiful scenery to photograph. Our firs couple of days were spent exploring the upper region of the peninsula with a stop off for lunch at Ardrossan then driving across to settle at Port Hughes, where we spend the following few days. Emily explored the rocks and I was greeted with some of the mast fantastic sunsets i had seen in ages.

From Port Hughes we travelled down to the tip Ïnnes National Park where we seen some of the most fantastic coastline and spent some time with some great friends and family.

When it was time for everyone else to go back to work we headed back up the inner side of the peninsula to Port Vincent where we spent a lot of time relaxing and also with a fishing rod in hand.

All in all it was a fantastic trip! Keep your eyes peeled for new images in the online shop over the coming weeks.

Vote for me now !!!

by mysv8rulz on Sep.01, 2008, under Uncategorized

Guy’s an e-mail i sent out the other day, every vote counts !

“Just though you would all be interested in this, Some time ago I entered the Snowden Photography Competition, when the winners were announced I checked the site to no avail, but just tonight on a revisit to the site, that both of my entries had made the cut for the people’s choice “Photographs selected by the panel of judges for the final round are eligible for this award and available for online votingI guess on a quick count that both of my 2 allowed entries had made the shortlist of 60 out of the “Hundreds of photos from around the globe” that were submitted. You can look at and if you feel they are good enough, vote for either of my images HERE, they’re grouped together about half way down the first page.”

The images in question

Which are also avaliable in the online store under the mining heading
